Book English with R. L. Stevenson. Treasure Island
Here you will not only return to the world of childhood, but also rediscover this wonderful master of words. This is the language of the great English literature of the 19th century, without understanding which you will never feel confident in modern English. The book is adapted (without simplifying the original text) according to the method of Ilya Frank. The text is divided into small passages, each of them is repeated twice: first there is an English text with “hints” - interspersed with a literal Russian translation and comments, and then the same text, but in its pure form, without hints. Beginners to master English language can read first a passage of text with hints, and then the same passage without hints. It’s like you’re learning to swim: first you swim with a board, then without a board. Those who are improving their English can do the opposite: read the text without prompts, peeking at the prompts as necessary. Memorizing words and expressions occurs due to their repetition, without cramming. In addition, the reader gets used to the logic of the English language and begins to “feel” it. This method relieves you of the stress of the first stage of language acquisition - from a mechanical search for each word in the dictionary and from fruitless guessing what a phrase means, all the words from which you have already found. The manual promotes effective language acquisition and can serve as a supplement to grammar textbooks or to basic classes. Intended for students, for those learning English on their own, as well as for everyone interested in English culture. Multilingual project by Ilya Frank: www.franklang.ru NB: There are two ways to format the transcription: UTF-LATIN and ASCII-IPA . To display UTF-LATIN correctly, full Unicode fonts are required, for example, DejaVu or Arial Unicode MS. If for some reason this does not suit you, use the ASCII-IPA version of the same book (it differs only in the transcription encoding). But this is associated with slight difficulties of perception at the initial stage. More information about ASCII-IPA:The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
