Henry Miller's book “Tropic of Cancer” at one time literally exploded the public morality of both hemispheres of the Earth. The hero of the book, in whom the personality of the author himself was clearly visible, “gave out” such a series of erotic revelations, and even presented in such a rich language, that more than one reader thought about the fullness of his sexual existence... Years passed. And fans of the writer’s work recognized the new Miller - a thoughtful, almost chaste, deep philosopher. Of course, in his memoirs he did not ignore his “troubled life” in Paris, but he also talked about how he studied with great French writers and artists, and expressed his thoughts about world literature and art. But right there, nearby - witty, devoid of “forbidden topics” conversations with new friends: tramps, drug addicts, drunkards, prostitutes... The translation is based on the first edition: Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronimus Bosch. New York, New Directions, 1957.

Книга Генрі Міллера «Тропік Рака» - це не просто еротичний роман, а справжня філософська подорож, яка змушує читача замислитися над сутністю людських стосунків, кохання та мистецтва. Міллер майстерно поєднує соковиті описи своїх еротичних переживань з глибокими роздумами про життя, творчість та пошук себе в світі, що постійно змінюється. Його стиль письма настільки захоплюючий, що читач немов занурюється у атмосферу Парижа, відчуваючи всі барви та відтінки життя того часу. Незважаючи на те, що книга містить відверті сцени, вони не є метою, а лише засобом для глибшого розуміння людської природи. Переклад, хоч і має деякі недоліки, все ж передає дух оригіналу, і це дозволяє насолодитися творами Міллера у всій їхній красі.
