For the first time, a little-known valuable source was published in the book - "The Life of Nicholas of Myra", translated no later than the autumn of 1579 in the circle of Prince Andrei Kurbsky in Lithuanian Rus. The translation goes back to the Latin version of the Life of Nicholas of Myra, created by the Venetian writer Leonardo Giustiniani (c. 1388-1446) based on the work of the greatest Byzantine hagiographer Simeon Metaphrastus (second half of the 10th century). The translation has been preserved as part of the hagiographic code - a unique Western Russian manuscript of the late 70s - early 80s. XVI century, made in the scriptorium of Kurbsky. When commenting on the translation, Kurbsky and his collaborators used the Latin lexicographical works of famous humanist scholars of the 15th-16th centuries: A. Kalepino, K. Gesner, C. Etienne. "The Life of Nicholas of Myra" was prepared according to the rules of linguistic publication of written sources. The publication of the monument is accompanied by a study, comments, the Latin original of the translation from the sixth volume of the "hagiographic library" De probatis sanctorum historiis by the Carthusian monk Lavrenty Surius (Cologne, 1575) and a photographic reproduction of the Old Russian list and handwriting of scribes who worked in Kurbsky's circle.
