The novel “In Magellania” is known to us in an adaptation by M. Verne, the writer’s son, under the title “The Shipwreck of Jonathan.” In the original text, more space is given to geographical descriptions of the Strait of Magellan region, pictures of the life of the Indians, extremist social movements are more sharply condemned; the author more actively advocates the rational use of natural resources and shows the harmfulness of an irrepressible passion for profit. The desire for the good of others contributes to the spiritual rebirth of the hero of the novel, an anarchist by conviction.
