This monograph was the result of the work of the all-Russian conference of medievalists of the same name, held at the Faculty of History of Moscow State University on February 15–16, 2012. Ethnic and proto-national discourses, as well as the practices resulting from them in Europe in the Middle Ages and early modern times, are studied using extensive historical material. Particular attention is paid to the factors that determined the specifics of ethnopolitical processes in states that were composite and complex in ethnic composition. Глибоке дослідження етнічних процесів в історії

Книга "Етноси та «нації» в Західній Європі в Середні віки та ранній Новий час" є справжнім досягненням у галузі медієвістики. Вона пропонує читачеві глибоке занурення в складні етнополітичні процеси, що відбувалися в Європі в той період. Автори монографії спираються на великий обсяг історичного матеріалу, що робить їх висновки переконливими та обґрунтованими. Особливо вражає аналіз специфіки етнічних дискурсів та їх впливу на формування націй, що дозволяє читачеві краще зрозуміти, як історичні обставини формували сучасні національні ідентичності. Хоча текст перекладено за допомогою штучного інтелекту, якість перекладу в цілому висока, хоча й є деякі недоліки. Проте це не заважає глибокому змісту книги, і я б рекомендував її всім, хто цікавиться історією, етнологією та соціальними науками.
