American satirist Christopher Buckley, author of the popular novels “They Smoking Here”, “Little Little Green Men”, “The Lord is My Broker” in Russia, this time told about what is happening in the highest circles of US legislators, as always, with a brilliant wit. Among the characters are television personalities, politicians, and officials, sometimes arrogant and habitually hypocritical, sometimes wounded and suffering (when their luck fails). There are also some very likable characters, but, of course, readers will most like the main character of the novel, Judge Cartwright, who, thanks to her intelligence, love of life and fantastic charm, prevails over high-ranking skeptics who do not want to take her seriously. In the novel Supreme Spasms, Buckley mercilessly ridicules not only representatives of all three branches of federal government, but also television, along with the audience it has duped.

Сатиричний шедевр, який варто прочитати!

Книга "Верховні судоми" від Крістофера Баклі – це справжня перлина сучасної сатиричної літератури. Автор, як завжди, вражає своєю дотепністю та іронічним поглядом на політичні реалії США. У романі чудово зображені всі нюанси життя вищих ешелонів влади, де політики, телевізійники та чиновники постають у всій своїй гордовитій і лицемірній красі. Головна героїня, суддя Картрайт, вражає своєю харизмою та розумом, що робить її справжнім символом боротьби за справедливість у світі, де успіх часто зраджує. Баклі вміло висміює не лише представників влади, а й саму систему, в якій живе суспільство, показуючи, як телебачення формує уявлення людей. Хоча переклад тексту деякими моментами залишає бажати кращого, загальна якість книги та її зміст компенсують ці недоліки. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує розумний гумор та гостру сатиру!
