Camus's novel “L'Étranger” was translated into Russian by the poet and literary critic Georgy Viktorovich Adamovich. At one time, G. V. Adamovich was part of a group of Acmeist poets headed by N. S. Gumilev. In the twenties, at the publishing house of World Literature, which was headed by Gorky, G. V. Adamovich translated French and English poets into Russian and, in particular, completely translated Byron’s poem, “The Wanderings of Childe Harold.” The literary gift of Georgy Viktorovich Adamovich, his merits as a poet and critic and his brilliant knowledge of Russian and French languages prompted the Parisian publishing house Editions Victor to turn to him with a request to translate Camus’s novel.

The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
