The play is part of the cycle of “pink plays” by Jean Anouilh, consisting of lyrical and ironic comedies with an incredibly happy ending. Horace and Frederic are twins, but their characters are completely different. Horace is cruel and mocking, and Frederic is a kind and gentle young man. Diana is a rich girl who is in love with Horace, but since he rejected her out of pride, she decided to marry his brother. To save Frederic from this marriage, Horace invites his aunt Isabella, a young dancer, to a ball at the castle and passes her off as a noble girl. She must make Frederick fall in love with her so that he will forget Diana. However, Isabella charms all the guests except Frederic and falls in love with Horace herself. Then he decides to create a scandal at the ball, revealing the truth about Isabella.
