Цей збірник творів демонструє іншу сторону автора, поринаючи в темряву людської душі та її безодні. Кожен етюд сповнений ірраціональних образів і фантасмагоричних ситуацій, які змушують задуматися про природу реальності та ілюзії. Гофман вміло грає на контрастах, поєднуючи жахіття з красою, що робить читання неймовірно захоплюючим. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має свої недоліки, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибокими темами та емоціями, які передає автор.
