Book English ghosts
The English see ghosts more often than anyone else. Peter Ackroyd views this feature of his compatriots as a cultural, historical and even geographical phenomenon. This book contains testimonies of people belonging to all walks of life and living at different times, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Ackroyd groups the stories, which are not inferior in the intensity of mysticism to the works of Edgar Allan Poe, into the sections “Ghosts in the House”, “Wandering Ghosts”, “Moving Objects”, etc. Gradually, the reader gets an idea of the most common types of English ghosts, such as wandering ladies and restless suicides, and about rare specimens - “old Geoffrey” and “the drummer from Tedworth.”
The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
