“Akatsuki in front of Port Arthur.” Under this title, a small book appeared in Germany containing notes from the diary of the Japanese naval officer Nirutaka about the active participation of the destroyer Akatsuki, which was under his command, in the battles near Port Arthur. These notes are very interesting. By the way, their very peculiar coverage of many details of these battles and the author’s clearly hostile attitude towards Europeans in general and Russians in particular, characteristic purely Japanese bragging, as well as remarks about Admiral Togo, are also interesting. We give here a complete translation of this curious publication. Note ed. “New Journal of Literature, Art and Science.” 1905
