Young ladies chasing after rich grooms, and fortune-hunters, mothers and aunts, desperately intriguing in search of advantageous parties for maidens, empty and mincing local "lionesses", beggared noblemen, scuttle-butts and rumors - before a reader colourful portraits and sharp, amusing situations come back to life literally.
