Автор майстерно передає страхи та переживання матері, яка намагається захистити свою глуху доньку від небезпеки, що нависла над ними в часи жахливого режиму. Сюжет захоплює з перших сторінок і тримає в напрузі до самого кінця, адже читач стає свідком неймовірної втечі через Європу, сповненої небезпек і викликів. Хоча в тексті є деякі недоліки в перекладі, це не заважає загальному враженню від історії. Книга змушує задуматися про цінність життя, любові та материнського захисту.
