Book Pit
A.I. Kuprin began writing the story "The Pit" in 1909 and completed the work six years later. The book about the life of prostitutes caused more condemnation than sympathy or understanding. The author was accused of immorality and excessive naturalism. One of the heroes of the "Pit" says: "... Our artists of the word - the most conscientious and most sincere artists in the world - for some reason still bypassed prostitution and a brothel . Why? Well, it's hard for me to answer this. Maybe they don’t have enough time, dedication, or self-control to delve headlong into this life and peep it closely, without prejudice, without loud phrases, without sheepish pity, in all its monstrous simplicity and everyday efficiency. Oh, what a huge, amazing and truthful book it would turn out to be.”Kuprin managed to create a book that is truly amazing in its truthfulness, and dedicated it to mothers and youth.
The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
