Deep in the dark night, a young woman, rejected by all the inhabitants of her village, dies on a bloody bed. A half-smile plays on her tormented face, her gaze fixed on the moonlit forest. The last words of the girl that the midwife heard after the birth of the unfortunate child are: "Curse ... a small curse, as she said ...". And then sickening gurgling laughter spreads throughout the house, foreshadowing imminent catastrophe.

Young Immanuel tries her best to live by the laws of the Church and follow the Holy Scriptures. She should not doubt the need for strict rules - after all, it was here, on the outskirts of Bethel, that the first Prophet defeated powerful witches and cleansed the earth of Evil. Chance lures Immanuelle into the forbidden forest, where she receives a gift from her dead mother's diaries and learns the truth about the true history of the Church. Determined, she takes action because the real threat to Bethel is not distant evil forces, but those that live nearby every day.
