Article of Тургенева about collection the "Poetic sketches", written in the period of scarcity of the Russian poetry, that began after death of Лермонтова and proceeded to the middle of 50th, and related to the performances of all editorial collective of "Contemporary", was directed against the devoid of principles or ideals poetry of эпигонов of romantic style of 1830th. She produced the strong impression in Moscow. Interesting description of reading of this article in one of Moscow literary salons contained in the letter of Феоктистова to Тургеневу: "As though the magnificent article about Познякове could deceive anybody! As though sufficiently not to sign the name, that public did not see the hand of master!.".
