Squatting around him were his three grandchildren: Swift Deer, Yellowhead, and Dark Runner. They looked alike. The skins of wild animals barely covered their skinny, bony bodies. Their legs were crooked and thin, but their chests were broad and their arms were huge and heavy. Shoulders and chest, arms and legs covered with thick hair. A whole forest of shaggy, tangled hair grew on his head, falling over his eyes, round and shiny, like those of birds. The eyes were set very close to each other, and the lower jaw and cheekbones protruded strongly forward ... "
