Марк Твен майстерно змальовує образ графа Белісарія, його боротьбу за справедливість та вірність імператору Юстиніану І, що робить його персонажем, з яким легко співпереживати. Книга наповнена захоплюючими подіями, які тримають у напрузі до останньої сторінки. Хоча переклад тексту місцями може бути не зовсім ідеальним, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибоким змістом та емоційною напругою сюжету.
