"Great Soviet Encyclopedia" (BRE) is the first and most respected national encyclopedia publication in the USSR. The publication was not only intended to convey knowledge about the world and its history, but also to shape the worldview of the citizens of the Soviet state. The first edition of the encyclopedia was published in 1926, and the last volume of the publication, which consists of 65 volumes, includes articles that were completed in 1978. BRE has become an integral part of the cultural heritage of many generations of Soviet citizens and still remains an important source of knowledge and reference literature for all those interested in the history and culture of the former USSR.
