Ця книга є вичерпним джерелом знань про іконоборчий етап в історії Візантійської імперії, що охоплює важливі церковні суперечки та зовнішньополітичні події. Автор детально аналізує не лише релігійні аспекти, але й впливи на формування нової Західної Римської імперії під керівництвом Карла Великого, що робить текст надзвичайно багатогранним. Якість перекладу, хоча й має деякі недоліки, не заважає загальному сприйняттю матеріалу, а навпаки, додає певного шарму, адже в деяких місцях можна натрапити на цікаві фрази, що спонукають до роздумів.
