Book Marino Faliero (Byron)
“The “Historical Tragedy” “Marino Faliero, Doge of Venice” was conceived by Byron in 1817, when he, arriving in Venice, first saw the council chamber in the Doge’s Palace with a black veil in the place where the portrait should have been executed the conspirator sovereign. The idea, postponed for a while by other works, was realized only three years later, in Ravenna. The tragedy, which began on April 4, was completed on July 17, 1820...” The work is given in the pre-reform alphabet.
