For students of the Arabic language, philosophy and culture of the Arabs, we offer a bilingual edition of the story “Broken Wings” by the Lebanese writer Gibran Khalil Gibran. Our reader does not need to specifically introduce Gibran (1883 - 1931). His work is known for such works as “Arabic Prose” and “Modern Arabic Prose”, “Oriental Almanac” (1958 and 1974), collections of selected works “Broken Wings” and “Tear and Smile”, the academic publication “Gibran Khalil” Gibran. Favorites." The story “Broken Wings” is the first (and only) major work of this Lebanese author, as well as the first major form from which modern Arabic prose begins. Essentially, this is an extended metaphor, telling not so much about the suffering of the heroine of the story Selma Karame, but about the tragedy of the Arab Levant. “A bird with broken wings will never fly,” says Selma. Gibran turned out to be a prophet. During the lifetime of our generation, more than one Levantine bird broke its wings trying to break free from its cage. This work was prepared within the framework of the “Dialogue of Civilizations: East-West” program of the Interuniversity Center for the Study of the Philosophy of Eastern Culture of the RUDN University.

The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
