Another world. Early Middle Ages. In this world there are the so-called “Forthcoming” - a type of priests and sorcerers who feed on human faith in various gods, and in the supernatural in general. The upcoming ones compete fiercely with each other in the struggle for people's faith; and so the five strongest of them decide to unite and build the “House-at-the-Crossroads”, which would accumulate the energy of faith for them. However, soon the House-at-the-Crossroads acquires its own essence and begins to actively absorb people’s faith, without giving people anything in return. The balance of faith in the world is disrupted, and people begin to degenerate spiritually. The supernatural leaves the world, and with it - fairy tales, legends, myths, songs; life becomes gray and boring. And then the hitherto obedient assistants of the Primates—their “Mythmakers”—revolt against the Primates and their House-at-the-Crossroads... The heroes experience many real and mystical adventures, their friends die - but in the end, the House-at-the-Crossroads still was destroyed... In addition to the dynamic plot, the novel also contains a philosophical idea that provides a basis for the existence of the supernatural...
