For many years, the pirate flotilla led by the Furious Gabul terrified the coast. One day, the shipwrecked bell maker Joseph and his daughter Mariel fell into his clutches. The bloodthirsty king of the pirates threw them from the ship into the sea and took for himself the bell cast for the ruler of the Salamandastron fortress. But the bell did not bring good luck to Furious Gabul. Mariel was rescued by the citizens of Redwall. Together with her new friends, she vowed to free the coast from invaders.
