In November he receives an order to illustrate an “anthology of fear”: 15 black and white drawings with vignettes. “This time the dominant will be black,” he says and goes to work. But nothing works at home: there is too much light, drawn curtains and lights off do not help. And then Stella invites her husband to go to her aunt’s villa and work in the furnished attic. And he leaves - to paint the darkness.
