Book Lectures on drama
The lectures “The Tragedy of Tragedy” and “The Craft of the Playwright” were written for a dramaturgical course that Nabokov taught at Stanford in the summer of 1941. The two lectures presented here were chosen as supplements to Nabokov’s plays for the reason that they contain in a condensed form many of the basic principles that guided him in writing, reading and performing plays.
The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
