Генрі Кісінджер, як радник з національної безпеки, ділиться своїми спогадами про складні та відповідальні моменти, які визначили курс зовнішньої політики Америки. Його опис прориву у відносинах з Китаєм та нової етапу у відносинах з Радянським Союзом є не лише історично важливими, але й надзвичайно цікавими для читача. Кісінджер вміло передає атмосферу тих часів, розкриваючи не лише політичні, але й людські аспекти переговорів.
