This book is devoted to the study of the worldview of the Greeks of the Archaic period. The sources were epic (mainly Homer), poetic, geographical and other works of antiquity, depicting the oceanic voyages of Greek heroes - Odysseus, But, Hercules, the Argonauts, Oresteia. The author reconstructs the mental map of the world that existed in the minds of the archaic Greeks and shows that the oceanic voyages of heroes around the ecumene, described by ancient authors, were commonplace and fully consistent with the ideas of that time about the geography of the world. Roman mosaics of the 3rd century were used in the design. n. e. "Odysseus and the Sirens" from the Bardo Museum (Tunisia).

Вражаюче дослідження архаїчної географії!

Ця книга є справжнім відкриттям для всіх, хто цікавиться античною історією та культурою. Автор майстерно реконструює уявлення греків архаїчного періоду про світ, використовуючи різноманітні джерела, включаючи епічні твори Гомера. Читання цієї книги дозволяє зануритися у світ океанічних подорожей та героїчних пригод, які формували уявлення про географію у свідомості давніх греків. Особливо вразила детальна реконструкція ментальної карти світу, що допомагає зрозуміти, як герої, такі як Одіссей та Геракл, сприймали свої подорожі. Однак, варто зазначити, що переклад тексту, хоч і здебільшого якісний, іноді містить некоректні фрази, що може трохи відволікати від читання.
