Слідчий Алан Бенкс — це персонаж, який викликає симпатію, і читач відчуває його боротьбу не лише з зовнішніми ворогами, але й з власними демонами. Ліс, в якому відбуваються події, стає не лише фоном, а й важливим елементом сюжету, що надає йому містичності.
