“The Stone Pilot” (2006) is a short story dedicated to the youth of Mojin, a stone pilot on the ship “Thunderbreaker”. As we know from Thunderbolt, Mojin is an evil necrog who never grew up: the day before she came of age, she was captured by slave traders. But it turns out that they didn’t just treat her poorly - they were going to sell her to a certain scientist. He was going to experiment on the poor girl, which could have ended very, very badly for her if not for the intervention of young Quintus Virginix. Actually, this story is about this - and also about how fate forced the evil little one to wander around the Land and choose for herself the profession of a stone pilot.
