“Angels of Desolation” occupy a special place in the work of the outstanding American writer Jack Kerouac. Continuing the plot of the writer’s most famous works, “On the Road” and “Dharma Bums,” this novel at the same time reflects the transition from the spirit of anarchic rebellion to disappointment in previous ideals and the search for new ones; the desire for the Road is replaced by a desire for stability, constant travel in the company of beatnik friends ends with a return to home. The novel thus became a kind of boundary between the early and late periods of Kerouac's work.

Керуак досліджує, як ідеали молодості можуть поступово втрачати свою силу, і як важливо знайти нові цінності в житті. Його персонажі, які колись прагнули свободи та пригод, тепер стикаються з необхідністю повернення до дому і стабільності.
