Including the American science fiction writer, whose life in the country of capitalism, which has triumphed over socialism, is the most feat of all: you and I are accustomed to queues, uncleaned sidewalks and everyday rudeness, but for him our reality is something like a dream and fiction. “I just can’t adapt to Russian life,” Jim Young complains and pours himself a glass of imported Budweiser for consolation. “I always feel like I’m in some kind of science fiction novel. Sometimes life is like Heinlein, sometimes it’s like Bester.” Or maybe this is Jim Young’s “Moscow Novel” that has not yet been written?
