The Russian fleet is famous for the names of many outstanding travelers and discoverers. Vitus Bering, the Laptev brothers, Kruzenshtern, Lisyansky, Golovnin, Bellingshausen, Lazarev, Kotzebue, Litke, Nevelskoy, Toll, Kolchak, Sedov and many other brave officers and admirals made an invaluable contribution to the development of world geographical science. But even against this stellar background, the name of Ferdinand Petrovich Wrangel (1797-1870) is lost - the famous Russian navigator and polar explorer, the author of the geographical bestseller “Travels along the northern shores of Siberia and the Arctic Sea”, which enjoyed European popularity, as well as the most interesting “Travel Notes” about his trip to America, “ Diary of a journey from Sitkha to St. Petersburg via Mexico" and other descriptions of his numerous travels. Having graduated from the Naval Corps in 1815, Wrangel participated as a midshipman in V. M. Golovnin's circumnavigation of the world on the sloop "Kamchatka" (1817-1819). In 1820-1824, he led the Kolyma expedition detachment to search for northern lands, including the island that was later named after him. Conclusively proved the existence of the Northeast Sea Passage. In 1825-1827 he led the Russian round-the-world expedition on the ship "Krotky". He was the main ruler of Russian settlements in America (1829-1835), director of the Russian-American Company (1840-1849), Minister of the Navy (1855-1857). Admiral, honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, one of the founders of the Russian Imperial Geographical Society, F. P. Wrangel lived such a life that one can (and should!) write an adventure novel about it. This edition presents “Journey along the Northern Shores of Siberia and the Arctic Sea” - a geographical bestseller of the mid-19th century: its European translations appeared before the first Russian edition ! The famous Russian navigator and polar explorer, who made three trips around the world, wrote a book full of beautiful descriptions of the natural resources of Siberia, the life and customs of the people who inhabited it, and the dangers and trials experienced during expeditions. The electronic publication includes all the texts of F. P. Wrangel’s paper book and basic illustrative material . But for true connoisseurs of exclusive publications, we offer a gift classic book. Dozens of color and more than 200 black and white illustrations allow you to visually imagine everything that the author talks about so excitingly. This edition, like all books in the Great Journeys series, is printed on beautiful offset paper and elegantly designed. Editions of the series will adorn any, even the most sophisticated library, and will be a wonderful gift for both young readers and discerning bibliophiles.
