"On the Eve of Lent" is a novel by the Ukrainian writer Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, published in 1907. In this work, the author talks about the life and customs of the Ukrainian peasantry at the beginning of the 20th century. The main character, Ivan Paliychuk, decides to break the threatening vow between himself and his beloved Hanna before fasting, because he feels that he cannot do this without the specified punishment.
