"Ukraine, 1918: Chronicle" is an overview of the most significant events for the history of our Motherland that happened in the year shortened by the calendar reform. The declaration of independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the conclusion of the Brest-Litovsk Peace with the Central Powers, the Hetman coup and the proclamation of the Ukrainian State under the leadership of Pavel Skoropadskyi, the foundation of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, the anti-Hetman uprising led by the Directory and the restoration of the Ukrainian People's Republic - such a "program" could well have been enough for several decades, but the short 1918 contained all this and even more. The main attention is paid to those events, which, according to the author, are the most important, interesting and decisive for the further development of our country. The popular presentation of the material in combination with illustrations and cited historical sources (state documents, newspaper reports, diary entries and memories of military and political figures of the time) facilitates easy reading and makes it possible to realize how much effort was made to make Ukraine independent.< /p>
