“In the VIII and IX centuries. Slavic tribes lived on the Baltic coast between the Vistula and the Elbe (Labe). There were a lot of them, big and small. The main ones were: Pomeranians, Rana, Lyutichi or Velets, Gavolians or Stodorians and Bodrichi.Pomorians lived from the Vistula to the Odra along the seashore. In the east they bordered on the Prussians, the people of the Lithuanian generation, in the south on the Polish Slavs, their closest relatives, separated from the former by the Vistula, from the latter by the Warta and Noteciu. The Persanta River divided the Pomeranian land into two halves, the western (or front Pomorie) and the eastern (or rear Pomorie). This division is important because both halves of Pomerania had different fates in history. Volynians also belonged to the Western Pomeranians, on the famous island of Volhynia. To the north-west of the Pomeranians, on the large island of Rane (otherwise Rune, Rue, now Rügen), lived a glorious Slavic branch, wound or ruyane. Among all the Baltic Slavs, they were revered as the eldest, main tribe ... "
