In the life of an employee of the FSB of Russia, Colonel Oleg Konstantinovich Yermilov, another change is coming. And the reason for this is the journalist Olesya Merkulova, who appeared on the horizon of Yermilov. She had just returned from a business trip to the United States, where her longtime acquaintance, American journalist Michael Moran, approached her. He invited Olesya to release a joint report about a certain Alexander Petrov, a former citizen of the USSR, who received a term in the Union under the articles of "espionage" and "treason", then safely emigrated to the United States, and is now serving a sentence in one of the federal prisons in Seattle. Moran proposes to make a film about Alexander Petrov in Russian and English. For his part, he is ready to arrange a meeting with a prisoner in prison, and Olesya needs to collect as much information as possible about Petrov in Russia. Realizing that it is unlikely that decades later, interest in Petrov’s personality arose from scratch, Colonel Yermilov receives an order to review his case, which was investigated by counterintelligence many years ago. So Yermilov finds himself in the epicenter of a whirlpool of accidents, which, in fact, are quite logical and natural, which the colonel is convinced of, moving step by step in the investigation, which has turned into something more than just checking old materials.
