This novel by G. L. Oldie, written at the intersection of alternative history, fantasy and utopia-dystopia, is first and foremost a parable. A parable about the Great Power and the Little People, about how the blind lead the blind, and the fact that there is nothing new - neither under the sun nor under the moon. But magicians and the Russian Empire at the beginning of the century? Gendarmes whose official “profile” is ethereal influences?! Sorcerers-convicts?! However, Oldie, as always, is not looking for easy ways - but deliberately complicating their task, so that they can then gradually emerge from the labyrinth of intricacies generated by their uncontrollable imagination.

Вражаюча притча про світ, де магія зустрічається з реальністю!

Роман "Маг у законі" Г. Л. Олді — це справжнє мистецтво, яке поєднує в собі елементи альтернативної історії, фентезі та соціальної критики. Автор майстерно створює світ, де маги та жандарми переплітаються в складному танці влади, а маленькі люди намагаються знайти своє місце в цій великій державі. Притча про сліпих, які ведуть сліпих, змушує задуматися про актуальні проблеми нашого часу, і це робить книгу надзвичайно актуальною. Олді не боїться ускладнювати сюжет, створюючи лабіринти з хитросплетінь, які захоплюють читача з перших сторінок. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які іноді відволікають від основного сюжету, я все ж вважаю, що ця книга варта уваги. Вона змушує задуматися, викликає емоції і залишає по собі глибокий слід. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує якісну літературу та готовий до інтелектуальних викликів!
