The first volume of the Anthology of Ancient Chinese Philosophy contains monuments of thought related to two main stages in the development of philosophical thought in Ancient China: the stage of the emergence of philosophical views, which covers the period of the 8th-6th centuries. BC e., and the stage of the flowering of philosophical thought - the stage of rivalry between the “hundred schools,” which traditionally dates back to the 6th–3rd centuries. BC e. The first volume mainly included excerpts from the works of Confucians, Taoists and Mohists. The second volume included excerpts from the works of Xun Tzu, Han Fei Tzu, the later Mohists, Confucians (“Li Ji”), Legists (“Shang Jun Shu”), a work of an eclectic nature (“Lü-shi”), as well as an excerpt from the historical monument “Shi Chi”, which characterizes various philosophical schools.
