This book belongs to the typically monastic genre that emerged in Byzantine literature in the 5th century. and reached its peak in the 7th–8th centuries. In the original, the book is inscribed with the name of Saint Caesarea Nazianzus, but its actual authorship has not been established for certain. Most likely, it was written by the monk of the Constantinople monastery Akimiton, who hid his authorship under the name of the brother of St. Gregory the Theologian. Most researchers date the text to the 6th century. The book consists of 220 questions and answers, and touches on both theological, moral, and natural science topics. Of course, many cosmological and anatomical ideas of that time may seem naive today and these pages should be understood more symbolically than literally - the letter kills, but the spirit gives life (2 Cor. 3, 6), but the dominant understanding of the world and man from theological and moral points of view today remains as relevant as it was one and a half thousand years ago. For ease of reading, the text has been divided into thematic sections and each section is titled.

The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
