At the end of the 1920s. Benjamin conceived a monumental work dedicated to Paris in the 19th century, a work about passages. The figure of Charles Baudelaire, the forerunner of imminent social upheavals, helps us understand this era. The work on Baudelaire was never completed according to the original plan. Among the numerous sketches for it in Benjamin’s archive, notes were preserved, united by the author under the title “Central Park,” the full text of which is reproduced for the first time in Russian in this publication. According to R. Tiedemann (compiler of Benjamin’s collected works, published by Suhrkamp), “Central Park " was written between July 1938 and February 1939. The name "Central Park" provokes many interpretations. The essay about Baudelaire was conceived back at the time of the “Moscow Diary” (1926–1927) - it was then that the Park named after Benjamin was built in the Soviet capital that Benjamin saw. Gorky. It is difficult to imagine that the philosopher did not apply a new age concept to this new world of entertainment. The title may also refer to Central Park in New York, near which Adorno and Horkheimer were looking for an apartment for Benjamin and with which, after fleeing Germany, Benjamin probably connected his immediate future. The publishing layout is saved in a4.pdf format.

The book’s text has been translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence system. In most cases, the translation is accurate and clear, but occasionally there may be incorrect phrasing or individual words left untranslated.
