Автор майстерно відтворює атмосферу "Століття джазу", коли Америка переживала бурхливі зміни, і показує, як ці події вплинули на життя та творчість Фіцджеральда. Особливо вражає те, як трагедія в особистому житті письменника, пов'язана зі станом його дружини Зельди, відображається в його текстах, надаючи їм глибини та емоційної напруги.
