Xenophon (c. 430-354 BC) is the most famous ancient Greek historian and writer, a student of Socrates. He received an excellent education and acquired extensive political and military experience. A staunch opponent of Athenian democracy, he idealized the Spartan political system and monarchical ideals. “Greek History” is one of the main works of Xenophon, covering the period from 411 to the Battle of Mantinea in 362, the period of formation and flourishing of Greek statehood. The wealth of factual material in “Greek History” is successfully combined with the accessibility and clarity of presentation by the author, a direct participant in many of the events he describes. This edition reproduces the Russian translation by S. Ya. Lurie (Leningrad, 1935), newly edited by R. V. Svetlov. Вражаюче дослідження давньогрецької історії!

Книга "Грецька історія" Ксенофонта - це справжній скарб для всіх, хто цікавиться історією та культурою Стародавньої Греції. Як учень Сократа, Ксенофонт не лише мав глибокі знання, але й унікальний погляд на події, які відбувалися в його час. Його опис періоду з 411 року до битви при Мантінеї є не лише хронологічним викладом, а й глибоким аналізом політичних і соціальних процесів, які формували грецьку державність. Вражає, як автор вдало поєднує фактичний матеріал з ясністю викладу, що робить його доступним для широкого кола читачів. Хоча переклад з оригіналу за допомогою штучного інтелекту може містити деякі недоліки, загалом текст залишається зрозумілим і інформативним. Ця книга стане чудовим доповненням до бібліотеки кожного, хто прагне зрозуміти витоки сучасної демократії та політичних ідеалів.
