Wholesaler Marcus Walker had no idea how dear the planet on which he was born and raised was to him, until he found himself on a huge alien spaceship who kidnapped him for an unknown purpose. Among the other captives, he discovered another earthling - a shaggy talking dog, who became his reliable and devoted friend. The ship was rapidly carrying its inhabitants into interplanetary space, and the restless Walker did not lose hope of returning to Earth.
