Book Under the influence
“Under the Drink” is the author’s translation of the American collection “On Booze” by Viktor Kogan, published in 2011. The New York publishing house New Directions, responsible for the posthumous fame of Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940), has collected the magazine publications and works of the writer from its archives under one cover. The book includes diary notes, essays and stories of one of the most prominent representatives of the “lost generation”, united by the theme of alcohol and located in reverse chronological order - from the late 1930s to the early 1920s. Fragmentary, bleak, but piercingly poetic lyrics gradually immerse us in memories of the passing “jazz age”, the turbulent interwar period and nostalgia for the old New York, as if seen in the haze from the deck of the last ferry to Staten Island.
