They are united by the image of the main character, who, in his declining years, sums up the results of a long, “tastefully and intelligently” lived life. This life had everything - hungry youth, early and loud literary fame, “the fight for world peace,” bitter disappointment in “hardware socialism”, prisons, exile... Numerous novels - written, filmed, staged - and novels that connected him with many women (their heroines, however, are chastely designated by one name - Maria). Among those with whom fate brought him together were celebrities such as Picasso, Ehrenburg, Neruda, Sartre, and unknown people. The geography of the narrative is extremely wide; the chronological framework (which the author pointedly neglects) covers almost our entire century.

Каботажное плавание — глубокое и многослойное произведение

Книга оставила у меня противоречивые чувства. С одной стороны, стиль написания автора завораживает, и каждая новелла полна жизни и эмоций. Главный герой, отражая свою судьбу, заставляет задуматься о смысле жизни, о выборе и о том, как прошлое формирует наше настоящее. Интересно, что в каждой истории мы видим разные грани его характера, его взаимодействие с известными личностями и простыми людьми. Однако, с другой стороны, мне показалось, что некоторые новеллы слишком короткие и не успевают раскрыть свои темы. Иногда я терял нить повествования из-за резких переходов между историями. Несмотря на это, книга оставляет много пищи для размышлений и позволяет взглянуть на жизнь с разных ракурсов. В целом, рекомендую тем, кто ценит глубокие и философские произведения.
