The first volume of the academic publication “History of the Tatars” is a general work on the history of the nomadic world of Eurasia, starting from the Bronze Age in the steppe and forest-steppe parts of Eurasia and ending with the formation of statehood in Central Asia, Southern Siberia and the Volga region in the early Middle Ages (VI–XI centuries). Much attention is also paid to the history of the Scythians, Saks and Sarmatians and their neighbors. The second section of the book, entitled “Turkic peoples and state formations of Eurasia,” begins with the history of the Huns in the East. The “Great Migration” in the 4th century. radically changed the demographic situation and ethnopolitical map of Eastern Europe. These events are highlighted against the background of a presentation of the history of the Hunnic Kaganate, the life of the Huns in the Volga-Ural region, in the North Caucasus, the heirs of the Huns in the steppes of southeastern Europe. The volume examines the ethnic history of the ancient Turks, presents the periodization of political formations, analyzes social ideals and social structure in states, carefully examines the way of life, material and spiritual culture of nomads, their beliefs and religions, as well as monuments of the runic writing of the Turks in Central Asia and Siberia. The history of the Uyghur, Karluk and Karakhanid states is highlighted as the legal successors of the ancient Turks.
