The story is set during the Hundred Years' War, when the courageous actions of Joan of Arc turned the tide of the conflict in France's favor. The play's premiere in London was a great success - the production was shown 244 times in its first year. At various times in Russia, “Saint Joan” was staged by such famous theaters as the Alexandrinsky, the Tairov Chamber Theater and the Lensoveta Theater.
