Інспектор Томас Лінлі, повертаючись до роботи після відпустки, стає свідком не лише розслідування вбивства, а й конфлікту між традиційними методами роботи та новими підходами, які намагається впровадити амбітна Ізабелла Ардері. Цей конфлікт додає напруження та динаміки, а читачу цікаво спостерігати, як розвиваються стосунки між персонажами. Особливо вразила роль сержанта Барбари Хейверс, яка, незважаючи на труднощі, не боїться відстоювати свою точку зору.
